Soy Nuts - Nutrition Information

Another great use for soy products is soy nuts.  Nutrition aside, this is just a great little addition to your day.  Whether you pack them as a snack, or get them in your trail mix, soy nuts can really help you get through your workday and stay healthy at the same time.  Not only are they healthier but they are certainly cheaper than eating out.  They are also a great addition to other foods like salads.  Even if you add salt to them for flavor, you will still find that they are healthier than peanuts and other foods.

Roasted soy takes on a nice crunchy texture while still absorbing many of the flavors added to it.  For this reason, soy nuts work great with several ingredients. 

Peanuts versus Soy Nuts—Nutrition Assessment

Compared to regular peanuts, soy nuts win out.  It’s not even a fair fight.  Even though peanuts are known for having protein, soy nuts have more protein.  At the same time, soy nuts have less of all the things that you don’t want.  Soy nuts have zero cholesterol and less fat than peanuts.  Therefore, if you’re on a diet, soy nuts are far better for you.

Soy nuts, of course, are not as good for you as regular soybean products like tofu.  One of the main differences is that the roasting process dissipates some of the nutritional value of soy nuts.  Nutrition values are still high, however, even when reduced by the roasting process.

Soy nuts, like regular soy, are great for heart health for a number of reasons.  First, they contain none of the LDL cholesterol that researchers have shown to have such a negative effect on heart health.  They also are high in fiber, which other studies have shown to block the body’s absorption of cholesterol you might be receiving from other sources.  Furthermore, the low levels of saturated fats are in accordance to the governmental guidelines for a heart healthy diet.  In a nutshell (pun-intended), soy nuts are just a great heart healthy food.

Cancer Prevention

Researchers believe that the same isoflavones that protect the heart may also help to ward off cancer.  Asian studies suggest that eating soy is one of the leading causes for the lower incidences of breast cancer in Japanese women. 

Reduction of Menopausal Symptoms

Yet another great benefit of these multipurpose isoflavones has to do with reducing the effects of menopause.  Studies have shown that isoflavones help to balance out hormones during this particularly challenging period.  Furthermore, soy nuts also help when it comes to reducing the uncomfortable hot flashes that are a so characteristic of menopause. 

Because soy nuts are also a good source for calcium, this means that they form a positive addition to a woman’s diet during menopause because it will decrease the effects of osteoporosis just at the stage when many women begin to feel it in their bones. 

Finally, soy nuts may also have a positive effect on a woman’s sex life.  Studies suggest that adding soy nuts and other soy products to a woman’s diet as they enter menopause helps them to sustain their levels of desire at pre-menopausal levels.

Although many people find soy products like the soy nut one of the best additions to their diets, soy nut nutrition may be denied them because of soy allergies.  Such allergies are unfortunately quite common and mean that those afflicted cannot have access to one of the healthiest foods on the market.
